My Space Isn’t Dead

// September 5th, 2009 // Social Media

Wouldn’t you like to be the founder of a website that ranked as the 11th most popular website on the web? A website that brings in tons of ad revenue? I would. When I hear people say MySpace is dead I wonder if they know or understand anything about web analytics. Sure you and some of your friends may have outgrown your MySpace accounts, but just because you stop using something that doesn’t mean everyone else has. MySpace is huge in the indie music scene, and huge with teenagers.  Social networking platforms fade in and fade out. I agree that Myspace is fading from it’s peak and losing users. They also need to address the problem of spam. Finally they should limit the amount of custimization users can add.  A friend of mine also pointed out that MySpace is still huge with minorities and the urban crowd. To sum it up if one takes a look at Alexa, the term “dead” is a huge exaggeration when you get more traffic than Twitter, Bing (Microsoft’s inferior attempt at a search engine), Amazon.com, CNN.com, or LinkedIn.
