What type of traffic are you targeting?

I have noticed a  large increase in a certain method of advertising used by small business. It’s seems the first time I noticed this tactic was Little Caesars and their core special. “$5.00 Pizza Hot and Ready”  I must admit that there has been a time I was driving down 60, I saw the sign holder and make a quick stop and hooked right to get a pizza. But I know the Little Caesars brand and I knew what I was getting. When I seen a person holding a sign advertising a condo I wonder if they really think someone will make a turn and buy a condo? I think it’s safe to assume people do a little bit of research before purchasing a home. I also think it’s safe to assume that people do some of that research on the internet.

I also see smaller businesses advertising using these sign holders. If I don’t know what you offer or have never heard of your business before what type of information can I gather while driving by a sign holder? If your lucky maybe the name of your business. So what type of traffic do you really want to target? Do you think random motorists who maybe late, daydreaming, talking on their cell phone, lost, suffering from road rage, are the best prospects? Or do you think searchers on the internet Googling “Tampa (insert your service or product here)”?

I once heard a very wise person say, “Your website is the front door of your business”.  Can customers find your front door? What does your front door look like? Can people find what they’re looking for once inside? These are all questions to be considered and are a post each in themselves.

A small amount of highly targeted web traffic provides a much better ROI than a lot of random cars passing by.
